I’ll be the first to admit that an except from TikTok is what brought me to this book. The writing style, however, had me almost put the book down the first few chapters in. I stayed for the deranged characters and smut. It was a little hard to get into at first, but a certain type of love comes from reading books like this so often. A love that requires one to overlook the writing style and simply enjoy the ride the author takes you on. I did find the split in narratives from part one of the book to part two of the book to be interesting, but the internal voices of the two didn’t seem to differ much when it came to tone of voice and sentence structures. I loved getting to see Malachi come into a comfortable place with his voice and I’ll admit I squealed at the end when he said her name so clearly. However, I’ll also admit that I did more skim reading of this book than an in-depth read. That could possibly explain the detachment I had toward both characters, but it could be possible that these characters were presented to us in a way that only seemed surface level, even when I watched them struggle to come to terms with their feelings for each other. I am incredibly intrigued by the title of the next book, especially since this story seemed to end on such a good note. I’ll definitely be reading it as soon as it comes out, but much like with this book, I’ll be going into it expecting nice (not great) smut and surface level tension that leaves much to be desired.
